There is something deeply comforting about finding the place where you belong.
For this painting, that journey began beneath the very tree a great horned owl calls home. I collected pieces of its bark, pressed them into the canvas to create the texture of the trunk, and slowly watched the owl emerge through layers of acrylic and transparent oil glazes.
To me, Belonging is about more than an owl and a tree. It’s about the quiet connection between wildlife and the places that shape them… and a reminder that we, too, are part of the natural world, not separate from it.
Belonging is the first completed piece in my Emergence Wildlife Series, a collection exploring wildlife emerging from the natural elements they call home.
